LLamaLetter
As years go, 2008 has been a wild
ride for all of us. A historical election, a hysterical
economy, and a histrionic media environment have
provided us with more thrills and twists than an episode
of 24. This has been an exciting year for LLamasoft as
well, and undoubtedly a turning point in our own
history. LLamasoft started the year as the little supply
chain software company with the funny name, but has
ended the year as a major player and the lead innovator
in the industry with record growth to back up that
claim. As I look back at the (many) notable highlights,
a few things really stand out in my
mind:
Version 5
Release. Software upgrades usually suck.
What a software developer may think of as a “cool new
feature” often gets received as “where did my button
go?” This release was the smoothest and most
professional yet, and sets the stage for a tremendous
cascade of important capabilities. If you didn’t know
that Version 5 was a complete, from the ground re-write
of the Guru interface, then good! What you should notice
is the solid, reliable feeling that comes from a truly
well engineered product.
Market
Visibility. Supply Chain Guru now has
hundreds of users around the world. At the beginning of
2008, supply chain professionals were surprised to see
LLamasoft on the short list of top companies in the
supply chain space; after a slew of awards and notices,
LLamasoft is now expected to be on everyone’s list.
We’ve worked hard to get this far and earn our place in
the industry. This year you’ll see LLamasoft re-double
our efforts to establish our leadership as the top
company in the industry—with your help. USAID and
JSI. There have been too many interesting customer
applications to review, but I’d like to point out one
for you that you likely haven’t heard about. In May,
LLamasoft consultant Astrid Tuin headed to Guatemala for
three weeks with a team of public health officials and
logistics experts to work on improvements to the
national health infrastructure and medical distribution
network in rural areas of the country. John Snow Inc.
and USAID continue to work in Africa, Asia, Central
America, and many other countries around the world to
make a difference in the lives of people who are
struggling just to survive. LLamasoft is extremely proud
of its role in helping JSI and USAID to make the world a
better place, and will continue to support these efforts
in the future.
It has become cliché to say “2009
will be a challenging year”. No doubt that’s true, but
the LLamasoft perspective is that 2009 looks to be our
best year yet. Over the next few months you’ll see some
amazing new technology that will transform not only how
people do supply chain modeling and optimization
projects, but also how people envision what can be done
with our technology. We know 2009 will be a tough year
for many people out there, but I am absolutely convinced
that we will get through it together and end up stronger
than ever for having made the journey.

 Presenter: Donald A. Hicks, President,
LLamasoft Abstract: Supply
Chain Strategy has traditionally referred to a single modeling
approach, "network optimization." In the last few years,
however, other modeling approaches are also being used to
address strategic planning problems, such as Multi-echelon
Inventory Optimization, Enterprise Simulation, and
others. Leading companies now use a variety of OR
techniques synergistically to address more sophisticated
strategic level supply chain planning problems, bringing
quantitiatve decision support ever closer to the heart of
business strategy.

presentation, Donald A. Hicks, President and Founder of
LLamasoft, will discuss the evolution of supply chain
strategic planning technology and discuss the exciting
advances on the horizon. Additionally, participants will
get exposed to some of the real and practical lessons and
anecdotes from 10 years of perspective at the nexus of
technology, finance, and entrepeneurship. "If you don't
want to know how the sausage gets made, stay out of the
kitchen." .gif) Donald

Chain World - 2009 ~ Pre-Quantifying Green Initiatives with
Supply Chain Modeling Tuesday – March 17, 2009 10:00 – 11:00
a.m. In the view of our presenter, the
ability to compete on green credentials can confer competitive
advantage and produce direct economic benefits to the
organization. Conditions have created a need for virtually
every company that sources, manufactures, and/or distributes
physical materials to be able to measure, manage and reduce
its greenhouse gas emissions over time. » visit
