LLamasoft to Develop Logistics Module for Unified Health
Model
Ann Arbor, MI - June 4, 2010 - LLamasoft, the leading provider
of supply chain strategic planning solutions, was selected by
the World Health Organization to lead the development effort for
a new Logistics Module that will be incorporated into the Unified
Health Model (UHM) which is managed by the Futures
Institute and the Interagency Working Group (made up of UNAIDS,
UNICEF, UNFPA,
WHO, World
Bank, and UNDP).
The UHM is a computer projection model that will be used for
supporting the costing, budgeting, financial and strategic development
of the health sector in developing countries with a focus on medium
term Millennium Development
Goal (MDG)-related health activities. The model, which will
be publicly available, will be used to assist countries with national
and state-level health planning. The Logistics Module that is
being developed by LLamasoft is intended to take a forecast of
material requirements and basic product information, as well as
the selection of a country context, and generate a supply chain
network, logistics metrics, financial metrics, and measures of
network services.
The module will come with standard data sets that include, but
are not limited to, geo-coded population data, facility information,
and health supply material. Each of these datasets can be supplemented,
or overwritten, by user defined data. This allows the model to
function when little data is available, yet it will be able to
support user defined information when it is available.
This project builds upon previous work LLamasoft has done in
the field of Public Health with organizations such as USAID, the
World Bank, SCMS, JSI, and WHO, and continues to establish LLamasoft
as a premier provider of Public Health supply chain solutions.
